That is one of the biggest annoyances with GM vehicles. The reverse lights are for exactly that, backing up and shouldn't be used for anything else.
Too many times have I waited for someone to back out of a parking spot only to find it is someone who unlocked or locked their vehicle and waiting is a waste of time.
Short answer is no. Are you wanting them to turn on so you have additional light in the rear of the truck? If so, there are other ways. What is the trim level of your truck? Do you have a backup camera and power tailgate lock? If so, it is likely that the courtesy light (trailer hook up light) that mounts next to the tailgate handle will be plug and play. My truck is a '17 XLT Premium and the wiring for this light was existing in the tailgate harness, truck side. Added the wires tailgate side, added a few Bolt LED's and bingo, very bright lighting when I unlock the truck or open the doors. And it dims to off just like the mirror puddle lamps do.

I want them to turn on so at night time I have more illumination. I have the XLT trim.
I do have a camera and power tail gate.
It details what you need to look for to confirm you truck is set up for the lights. You can then either go OEM with a new tailgate handle molding and harness or just add some lights as I did. I'll include some pictures of my setup below. What I did initially was add the two pins in the tailgate plug for the light power and ground, and then add the two wires to the plug and wire them to the two bolt LED's that I mounted in the handle bezel. But due to not having the correct pins to add to the plug, it wasnt a reliable connection so I ultimately bought the tailgate harness that had the additional wires and plug for this light, which I then wired my lights into. I got all the info initially from the above linked thread.
