Hey guys and gals, I did a little researching but thought I would ask the experts here as well.
What year did the superduty come out with an aluminum body?
It's getting closer and closer to me needing to replace my 2009 f350, and the aluminum appeals to me. I live in Canada and my last two trucks (2003 7.3, and 2009 6.4) have been great trucks, but both develop rust issues after high miles (understandably) and I think I would like to try one out with aluminum and deal with the aluminum corrosion vs the rust.
I do like the looks of the 2011-16 better than the newer style, but from what I'm reading it was the 17+ that got aluminum.
Can anyone confirm? Anyone with an aluminum body live in an area that's prone to getting rusty vehicles and can comment on how theirs are holding up so far? (Even though a 2 year old truck shouldn't show much rust/corrosion!)
In my area of Colorado they use Mag Chloride, not regular salt. All my vehicles, except for my wife's former mini-van, have done well. The wife's had rust, but I blame her for that since she rarely got it washed. On my daily driver I wash it the first day the roads are dry after a snowstorm.
My 2017 is aging well. I expect that the aluminum body will outlast everything else on the truck.
I have my truck oiled every year with Carwell Products. It's oil is red and I have to get it done every year. I know there are companies in Canada who spray trucks with a rust preventative like Carwell. I'd look into that if you like the 11 to 16s better. I had a 96 that Carwell worked well on also. Just my 2 cents. The new style has grown on me but I still like my gen better. Good luck.
My '17 will be 3 yrs old in March and no problems with the aluminum so far. The F150's have been using aluminum since '15 and the cab's on them are used for the Superduties. Not much road salt in South Louisiana but I run through some saltwater during high tides sometimes and just come back home and rinse off.
Alan Mulally, ex Ford CEO, came from Boeing and fell in love with aluminum in Seattle, WA, drove its use in Ford products................it makes sense having it in automotive, but its use in airplanes is falling off every year...........
