I have decided to put new carpet in Henry prior to switching over to bucket seats. Somewhere in the past, someone used a contact cement that defied removal. Well I finally got it free from the floor but it seems that the carpet was installed before the tank and there are two fittings that go through the floor. Did they cut holes in the carpet for these fittings? I cannot get the carpet to come lose from under the tank.
I took my carpet out of my 51 as well........ I ended up using wd40 to resolve the contact cement.....I loosened my tank and was able to remove the carpet.....I replaced it with a repro rubber mat....it looks much better than the carpet.......

And you can clean a mat with a wet day and then Armour All it if you want.
I would pull the tank out of the truck. It is a pretty easy job one drained. That is a prime spot for rust. Also a good time to clean out the tank thoroughly and check for leaks. Also you might want to consider installing sound deadener before putting in your new carpet. It makes a big difference. (Be sure to wear gloves).
