I have a 2000 Excursion just started to smell gas out exhaust bad and seems to sputter. Checked the pressure seems to hold but don't seem to jump to ideal quick 😭 I was thinking since it has 285k on it to do the pump and module and not sure what is a good one to use that won't break the bank
I agree with the fish dreamer above, a fuel pump issue wouldn't lead to a rich running condition. I'd be inclined to look at plugs, COPS and O2 sensors first. How old are the current plugs and boots? Are there any codes being set or a lit check engine light?
Time for new spark plugs and COP boots. Don't run your X no more or your going to destroy your cat and wash off you cylinder walls with all that raw fuel
I guess I should of put this in the post as well but it hasn't been too long I put new intake on it as well with new plugs and coils and didn't think that could be the problem but I found last night since coils were under warranty I had a couple sent to me and changed number 2 which on the scan tool said there was a miss fire and the plug did look really rich so I changed it along with coil and number 2 injector and seems to be a little better but I believe the main problem what the coil pack. I think I'm going to look into a better set cause I believe only 1yr in a half a coil should not go. If anyone had a good place to get a nice set with a good warranty I'd appreciate it. Thanks for everyone's help.
Also on destroying the CAT I already removed it along with the muffler can in the rear of truck. Still have the original muffler under truck tho but will be updating that soon too
There have been reports of short life cycles on some of the aftermarket COPs. The OEM manufacturer of these COPs for Ford is Denso, you can buy the Denso COPs for about $25 per at vendors like rockauto, I'm not sure about the warranty though. These are the EXACT same COPs as the more expensive Motorcraft one that typically are twice the price, if you peal the Denso sticker off their tops the MC part number is right there. I bought 2 Denso COPs a couple of years ago to keep as spares if ever needed, they are still in their boxes.

Is this a V-8 or 6.8? The V-10 only has the cat and muffler, otherwise all just piping, no third device, I think the 5.4 has a rear resonator after the muffler. I'm guessing the cat was destroyed by the miss and resulting rich condition, prolonged misses are about the best way to kill the cat.
Are you running without an 02 sensor? Think about it. The only way you're gonna get more fuel into the cylinders is for the PCM to pulse the injectors more. If its one cylinder you get a code for rich running. If it's ignition, and the miss is frequent enough you'll get a code. What you really need is a look at you long and short term fuel trims. Look for a leak in the intake system. If it's before the airflow meter the PCM will try to enrich the mixture to make for the extra air. If the leak is after the airflow meter the engine will run lean. Your 02 sensor will be your eyes telling which it is.
