Right leg pain after driving for 20 minutes

It seems like no matter what I adjust, my right leg is in serious pain after 20 minutes of driving my new 19 Lariat. I'm wishing I had taken a longer test drive because if I had known about this maddening pain, I would have never bought the truck. Anyone else have this problem?

That sounds like classic Sciatica from back problems. Have dealt with it for years--doesn't matter the vehicle. In all honesty, I'd see the doc as it's likely not the truck.
Just my .2 worth. HTH

Well, the only vehicle that does it is the Ranger. The Colorado I traded in, my wife's Sonic, all the fire trucks and ambulances at work, none of them make me have this pain on the outside portion of my thigh.

I have major back problems (lifelong sciatica and now a big fusion with 8 screws and 3 rods) and can't drive the majority of vehicles for any length of time. You need to think about what aspect of your position in the Ranger is different from the other vehicles you drive.

Are you twisted or angled in any way? Are your thighs under or over-supported? Are any of the bolsters, either on the bottom cushion or seat back, pushing on your body? Is the lumbar support pushing on a different part of your spine than other seats? (I can't deal with any significant lumbar "hump" in a seat--I need straight and relatively firm seatbacks.) Are your glutes (butt/hip muscles) straining at all based on the seat cushion angle or pressure points? My guess is that your glutes are pinching a nerve going down your thigh. Become aware of what/where your glutes are and find some stretches for them.

This is between you and your seat and seating position. Change the tilt, backrest angle, lumbar support (if it's adjustable), maybe significantly if you can, and even consider getting a piece of memory foam (or a memory foam cushion) and put it under your butt, or on your seat back, etc. Over time, as with callouses on your feet and a new pair of shoes, your body may adapt to the seat, and time spent in the seat will tend to form the foam to your body shape--bolsters can soften and flatten, etc. If you have heated seats, leaving the heat on will soften the foam and help form it to your body.

If you find that some part of the seat, like a bolster, or the contour of the back or seat cushion, is a problem for you, you could go to an auto upholstery shop and have the foam reshaped, either adding or subtracting, or moving to softer foam or memory foam.

I have had problems with car seats since I was 22 years old and I'm now 67. As I said above, I have a hard time with 80% or more of car seats, and it seems stupid to have my back limit my choice vehicles, but if I'm miserable, a car does me no good. Years ago, I could buy Recaro seats and mount them in different vehicles but side airbags and weight sensors make that all but impossible these days. I won't buy any vehicle that I can't test drive (or sit in) for at least an hour.

Good luck,
George

Have you tried the lumbar adjustment?

If the seat can be adjusted up, raise it up as high as possible do that it’s more like sitting in a kitchen chair. That helps me, at least.
