Anyone have problems with the seats causing back trouble?

I'm having a serious problem with my '05. If I ride in it longer than 15 minutes it hurts my back so bad I can't walk when I get out. I have the front bench (35/30/35) with heated leather and cannot find a comfortable place in them. One huge problem that both me and my wife have is that they don't tilt forward enough. My seats won't even go to a level position. I'm 6' tall and she is 5'2" and neither of us can get the seats to a decent driving position. I love the truck, but i have to get rid of it because I can't drive it anymore. Anyone else had these kinds of issues with the front seats or maybe just the bench configuration?

Sorry to hear that.

I have a 2002, and the split bench seat is a 40 20 40, power. Are you sure yours are 35 30 35?

Anyway, we are extremely happy with our bench seat. I've been really impressed with the support and variable positions. I'm really comfortable, and so is everyone else in my family. I'm also about 6' tall.

I have to say that this is my first new truck in some time. I have a '84 F250 that has bench seats without any support at all, and I was driving my wife's Ford minivan before I got the truck. The minivan is built for soccer moms, not big men, in my opinion.

So, I can't compare the Ford's seats to any other make pickups.

I had problems driving with the lumbar portion. I would drive the the lumbar turned up high, I would get really uncomfortable after a bit of driving. I tried dialing it down and find it much easier on the lower back.

I have found the seat can adjust quite a bit; try this: stand outside the truck a play with the controls, see how each one effects the seat. Remember the seat back is adjusted by the lever on the side not the buttons. Lower the seat completely by using the center toggle button. You may notice it tends to lean back as it goes down. Release the side lever which should move ONLY the seat back till it is far forward. Now sit in the truck you may find the seat back too far forward, use the side lever to tilt backwards till you are far enough back. You can adjust the level by using the rear most button on the seat controls. Then adjust the height by using the center toggle, this is also used to move the seat forward and backward.

I hope this helps and doesn't seem elementary to you. Just play around with the controls I think you will find a setting you will enjoy. Just remember that if it gets moved you will notice it. I hate it when service guys adjust the seat, I usually take a day to get it back in spec for me.

Heavyassault;

I've tried it all. My biggest problem is that the seat does not go completely flat or tilt forward even a little. It is always tilted back a little to an extreme amount. It puts the most awkard pressure on the front of my hamstrings and my lower back. After sitting in the passenger seat a few times I've notice the seat back for the drivers has a much greater curve in the lumbar area even with the support dialed all the in. I think that is also part of my problem. I'm really bummed that I can't drive the truck anymore. I really liked it a lot besides that. It is a beautiful machine. Oh well, have to get rid of it now. We'll see how much I loose on it.

Jim59;
I think they are listed as 35/30/35, but I'm not certain. They are the all power and have the really rare option of heated leather. I had a hard time finding a heated leather bench, let me tell you. I know there was a seat change in one of the years that actually made the seats skinnier. My friends 2000 Excursion seats were much wider than mine.

What about finding a seat you like and installing it in your truck,,?????

I have an 06' F-350, with the 40/20/40 manual seats,,and they are too me,,,very adjustable, the back will lean lean forward to about straight up, I would think the power seats would be even more adjustable, I hope you find a solution,,other then selling your truck,,,Good luck,,,Mark

I also have the 2002 with the heated leather. I really like them. Have you taken it to the dealer to see if the adjustments are working correctly? I would also check into an after market seat before I just threw it away.

Good Luck.

I have the bucket seats but I have had a lot of different trucks and the Ford seats are in my opinion the most comfortable. The Chebby seats are way too narrow. I am a little over 6' like you guys, and go about 225lb's, which is probably about average (regardless of what my doctor says). But to me the other truck seats, pinch the back.

I have to think there is something wrong with your seats, but if not look for some aftermarket seats, there are some really nice ones and will cost less than you will lose on getting rid of the truck.

I have heard of folks with this problem or similiar. (I have a 05 lariat with 40/20/40 power heated leather seats and they are great.) So, I would check two things. Are your seats level from side to side? Using washers as spacers, level your seat side to side and perhaps raise the back by 4 or 5 washers and see if this gets you in a better range. My seat has many controls and will actually tilt forward enough to roll something off. I think perhaps you have a problem with the rear power or your seat needs some washers under the rear to raise the back mounts up a bit? Is your seat frame broken or bent to cause this. Heavy Assualt has some good advice, try the controls and see what you can get for max movement. I would go to the dealer and ask them to fix it at any rate, this is an expensive truck, they need to provide you some service.
Just my 2 cents...

PS, perhaps you could compare your truck to a similiar seat for range of motion and controls on the dealers lot to ensure yours is not a warrenty issue? You friendly dealer should be willing to help....

If there is not an ajustment to make you happy, then 1st I would try to shim it to make it more comfortable. 2nd Get a different seat (new or used) If the only problem is the seat, then fix the problem. You aready have the best truck on the road! Make it suit you. My truck is just the oppistie of your problem. I have the captian chairs. I do have back problems. I can drive 28 hrs straight to canada and no problems. Now my wife has an exploder, w/leather buckets, a small trip to town (10 minutes) and I hurt so bad. Anyway you get the point. Test drive some with different seats and see which is more comfortable for you and your wife. Don't change to an inferroir truck!

I feel my seats are the most comfortable I have ever had. the only vehicle I ever had that I thought was awful as far as seats is the Taurus. As far as my 05 350 I love the truck and the seats

truthfully, my o1 f-250 which is my favorite truck of all time (i beat myself up every day for selling it) did give me some back trouble. unfortunetly it led me to sell my truck. somthing ive regreted ever since. a budy of mine had this same issue with his 86 blazer. he loved the truck but it was killing his back. so he had some ricarro (dont mind the spelling) seats with every adjustment known to man installed and now, 143,000 miles later he still loves driving that truck. just somthing to think about.
