Hey Guys and Gals, I'm looking for a rearend for a 84 f-350 dually. It is a pickup frame and need to have a 4.10 gear.
What am I looking for?
Dana 70?
Dana 71?
What year trucks would I be looking for to fit this truck?
Thanks to any and all replies. Ron.................
Your truck originally had a Dana, but I think I would look for a little bit later Ford/Sterling 10.25. So much easier to work on the brakes, you just pull the drum off. On the Dana's you have to pull the axle and then the hub/bearings to work on the brakes. You can look all the way up to 1998. Some of the rearends may have a little different yoke length, so be prepared for the driveshaft to possibly need shortening or lengthening a little bit.
Franklin 2 thanks for the info, the brakes on the 10.25 would be a welcome addition.I have a couple sources local but I need to know what I'm looking for. I have not heard anything bad about the 10.25 so I would assume its a good part.
Thanks...........

if at all possible get a 92+ sterling axle. it has the long pinion yolk for more support.
Just remember if it is for a pickup, it has to come from a dually pickup. Cab-n-chassis are different
So if I went with the hub centric rearend I will not be able to use my lug centric wheels?
Thanks
I have never tried that. But if your lug centric wheel fit over the center protrusion on the rearend, and you used the proper lug centric lug nuts, I don't see why it would not work. I think if I were you I would carefully measure the diameter of the center hole on your lug centric wheels, and then measure the hub diameter on the rearend you are thinking about using. If it fit over the hub, or had clearance around the hub, I would think it would work. You may need something like the picture below to measure the rearend hub.
