'81 F-350 disc brakes?

I have a '71 F-350 (see my gallery), and a '81 F-350 (with no title) and was wondering if the front spindles, rotors, calipers and proportioning valve would work as donor parts for a disc brake swap on the front of my 1971?

Also could I save the 1981 rear brakes for parts, since they look really fresh?

I'd like to save all the parts I can from the 1981 and then junk it. I hate to do that to a Ford but I never was a fan of the '80-'86 F-Series.

thanks

What rear end is in the F 350? Dana 70?
I don't know much about the early Dana 70 rearends
Do you know what size axle shafts it has?
Spline count?
Dually or single wheel?
There is a chance that the Dana 60 from the newer truck may be as strong as what is already under your truck if the 60 is a full floater.
Check to see if there is any difference in width between the 2 axles
You would have to relocate the spring perches on the 60 to make it fit but it may be worth keeping the whole assembly if you have the space.

Not sure about the front rotors but it would be worth looking into.
I have noticed that later rotors look similar to the ones on my 70 Camper special and thought about asking the same question.
Good luck with the project.

thanks Woods,

I might just keep the whole 1981 F-350 instead of tearing the good stuff off and junking the rest 'cause it has a good 4spd, rear axle and front end.

Just no title and a 351 Modified that I'm not crazy about!

According to partsamerica.com, both those trucks use the same kingpins, -but- the 80's trucks had the steering box in front of the axle, the pre-80 trucks had the steering box in the rear of the axle, so no go.

thanks Ford_Six,

I never thought about the steering linkage move to the front of the I-beams in 1980
