Looking to add Carr steps to the 1967 F-150 4wd. Carr says they dont fit. Have seen them on our years before. What did you order for a starting point? Obviously have to modify, but just need a starting year/model.
If you're looking for a hoop style step, the only thing that is important is the length and drop. Set up a step with whatever you have, blocks or a step ladder, and figure out where your step needs to be. Then measure how long the step has to be. Then call them up and ask them how long they are. It looks like they have a couple of different lengths.
We were never able to find a CARR step that was just a bolt-on for most pre-'79 Ford trucks. But sometimes they were still "made to fit" using custom brackets.
Don't remember any details, but they were all custom mounted. People liked the CARR style and rigidity, but the underpinnings of the body on our trucks were just not conducive.
Even when there was a flat-backed rocker panel with exposed surface, it wasn't that strong and would flex severely without special custom bracing to either the frame, or just a more solid point on the body.
Cool, thanks for the info! I have no trouble fabricating a frame bracket or something, just need a starting point. Maybe I will just order a set for a 1980 and see what can be done.
