Is there any company that makes tubular side steps for a 1979 F250? I have searched every catalog out ther and they only seem available for later years?
The frames on the pre-80's trucks are significantly narrower than the later models. The best bet for the older trucks is going to be make the ones for the newer models fit somehow. Or fab up your own. I know a guy who has Expedition side steps on his crew cab Chuvy. So anything is possible with an imagination.
I have installed rear bumpers and brackets from a 1988 F150 onto a 1976 F100 and the frames are the same width as far as I could tell. That doesn't mean the frames are dimensionally the same so that brackets for accessories will work. I am pretty sure there are different curves in the frames from the 1970s to 1980s.
The real difference you will run into is the way the 1970s and 1980s body/cab sits on the frames. This will cause clearance problems when using psarts made for one used on the other.
Even with these problems that may occur it is worth checking out especially if you can make your own brackets to overcome them.
Let us know if this works out because I have considered using something like this as well.
