Just took my truck out for a spin for the first time today with its AOD and 302 i just put in it and i was all but pleased. The tranny from some reason or another seems to not be engaging. You have to run the rpm's around 3000 before it seems to kick in gear and even then it sounds like u are driving a clutch as it seems to ease into gear. Its nothing like a reg. auto should be, i think anyways. Any clue on what could be wrong with it and how much it would be to fix it? Thanks.
Check and adjust the TV cable to the carb or throttle body. It controls all the line pressure on the AOD and will toast the tranny in short order if not right.

Thanks for the posts. This is obviously gonna be a dumb question but what exactly is the TV cable? I was told in the older trucks forum that i didnt' have to have a kickdown hooked up to anything, it just wouldn't have a passing gear? The only other thing I see is an arm from the shifting lever towards the front of the tranny where it hooks on to something that sticks out and swivels. Thanks again.
It's a throttle Valve. It is a cable that connect to the transmission arm behind where the gear selector is, and runs up to the carb or throttle body. it hooks up to the thottle and as you increase the throttle it increases the line pressure in the tranny. It has to have this on the AOD transmission and it has to be setup right or it will toast the tranny real fast.
Look in a Chiltons or hanes shop manual for your truck or another truck with an AOD in it and you'll see what I'm talking about
