This goes along with other tire fitment threads but is more about personal opinions. Every winter when i look at my truck with the camper shell on the stock sized tires look so tiny under it, still do during the summer with no shell but not as bad. I’m wanting to install taller and slightly wider tires so am looking at either 33s or 35s. So aside from lift/ wheel size and other fitment variables has anyone regretted going from stock size up to 33s or 35s. I tow on occasion but not usually very heavy and with my new job i drive more highway than in town miles. I pull re-gear if I decide its needed or heavily recommended. I have a 2000 F350 with everything listed in my sig and stock gears(3.73) currently. So I’d be going from 265/75r16 stock to 275/70r18(33s), 285/70r18(34s), or 285/75r18(35s). I have 18” wheels from an 04 and am not too concerned with rubbing my leaves, I’ll drill and tap my bump stops if it becomes an issue. And am not overly concerned with a reduced turning radius, its a CCLB, it doesnt turn sharp now so I’m pretty used to it taking half an acre to turn around. So to go with the title does anyone regret going to larger tires from stock, should I baby step the size increase stock to 33s to 35s or just go straight to 35s?
Nope. (See pic of my previous 7.3 250 in sig). Looked way better to my eye and in Maine would routinely spend about 20% or so on gravel and then a bit on 'unimproved road' where the size seemed to help, I didn't notice much of a change on pavement re speedo being off or problems parking (turning radius). I felt no downside and happier when I would walk to truck - there wasnt all that odd empty space around the tire.
I've had several lifted trucks over the years and the only time I have been unhappy with larger tires was waiting while I put together the parts/money to put gears in it.
I'd go with the 35's but I think those 3.73's are going to be a little on the tall side for them and you might at least consider upgrading gearing as well if you go that route.
I doubt you will regret it. The larger tires really fill them out and give them a better stance plus a few more inches of ground clearance.
I'm on my phone and can't see your sig so I dont know what engine you're running, but if its gas I wouldn't put 35s on with 3.73s. If you are OK with dropping the cash on new gears then absolutely. 35s look great on these, but I wouldn't go over 33 with the gears you have (again, assuming its gas). I have 3.73 on my 6.8 running 33s and wish it were lower geared. A decent set of 33s will still be an improvement over stock.
For those who cant see my sig, i have the 7.3 with 205/80s and a KC38R turbo all tuned accordingly so hopefully power isn’t an issue. I figured gears would be in order but am half tempted to run the tires for a while and do gears after the fact. Partially since i will also be installing a Tru trac, whether i do gears or not and do do gears on both ends will cost a pretty penny. Open diffs suck. Currently my driving is probably 75% highway/ 25% in town so hoping with the taller rubber my RPMS being lower will help with my mileage maybe a little. Filling out the wheel well is a big part of me wanting larger tires for sure, even after i lowered the rear there’s a huge space there and in the front with the x codes. I dont plan on worrying about a ton of travel since i cant really wheel my monster.
Never regretted it. Not one single day. I have towed my 32' 5th wheel all through Colorado with my old 2002 and my current 2012. I had a tuner, 38r turbo, 4" exhaust and 3.73's on my 2002 and it towed fine with 35x12.50x17 tires. I now run 37's on my stock 6.7 and it does even better towing than my 2002 did. Both trucks were lifted 4.5 inches.
So would it be ok/ a good idea to jump from stock sized to the 34s or 35s? I’m planning on a little trimming where needed, hoping to keep the truck low. 89, thats good to hear about towing experience, how heavy was your 5th wheel? Your 6.7 is damn good looking, looks perfectly proportioned.
I figure whatever size i go with I’d run for a while till i get the money set aside for gears if needed and the tru trac regardless. My tires now should make it through the winter fine but they’re getting old and thinner than I’d like for use in the snow and mud i choose to run through at times
My F250 has 4.30 gears with 33's, V10 engine. 2.5" level lift. OD It pulls just fine and the tires look right, no issues.
My K5 Blazer has 35's and 3.73 gears. Built 350 gas motor, 475 Ft Lbs Torque, no OD, 5" lift. Again it looks right and drives good. But the suspension I have is not for towing, for off road high speed desert.
My '04 Chevy has 4.10 gears and 37" tires. 5.3 gas motor. OD. It runs fine but will not tow, hence the F250. It's the wife's mall crawler.
You have a 7.3 which will have more torque.
While no big relation to my question what is everyone’s axle center to fender lip measurement for the front? I’m planing on trimming my fenders some to help make the tire more centered looking in the wheel well and avoid having to lift as much or hopefully at all.

Cool, mines only 7K fully loaded, the heaviest trailer that I’ve had behind my truck was 12,000 lbs I think, of either concrete or clay in a dump trailer. Most of my time driving is empty so it should be decent unless I start pulling trailers more.
I don't think you'll need to regear at all. I had 35s at one time and it was a bit sluggish with stock tuning and 3.73s. Once I got custom tunes, power wasn't an issue. With the injectors you have, as well as a turbo to match them, I'd think you'll have PLENTY of power.
Now if it was a stock 7.3 with 35s and 3.73s and you wanted to tow 15k every other day, I'd say regear.
I have 35s on my 7.3 with 3.73 gears, no regrets at all. The truck has plenty of power, can comfortably cruise at 80 mph, and tows 10K easily. The only thing I would do different is go with a 2 or 2.5" lift insted of a 4", 35s look small with a 4" lift, and I don't want to go any bigger.
Thanks everyone for the input but and i mean it with all sincerity, y’all suck. Helping me spend my money with pics showing how awesome the trucks look and how they perform. I’m looking at Nitto ridge grapplers when i do order my new tires, anyone have any input on these tires?
