I wonder if others have observed this stuff. I can't tell where it is coming from, one would think road dirt but it is coal black and I don't think that I have driven on roads that would cause this. When touching other surfaces nearby, I don't find much black stuff. The black aligns with openings at the top in front of the radiator. Could it be exhaust circling back to the front of the radiator? 2011, 6.7, 55,000 miles.
just first thought is road grime. Have you been following any vehicle that is using oil or losing oil/gear lube Or maybe from a semi? Does it have any smell? Or does it feel oily?
Geez, do you maybe idle a lot? And have an exhaust leak? I’d also bet it’s from another vehicle, or something other than your truck.
On a side note, has anyone noticed the paint being rubbed completely off in the area of the black stuff on that hood? Where the rubber seal along the radiator rubs the hood? Mines wearing A groove into the aluminum. I’ve considered a strip of clear vinyl, like used for paint protection on hoods and bumpers. But curious if my hood is just moving around a lot, or if it’s normal.
