Off the subject. This is the least of your worries right now, but you should get some of that split wiring loom and put around that rubber fuel line. It looks like it's against the firewall. It will be constantly rubbing as the engine shakes and moves around while running. It may take several years, but it's eventually going to wear through that line.

If you decide you want a kickdown rod I have one from an '84 351W. You can have it for the cost of shipping if it will work for you.
