Just noticed this on all 4 tires when I was putting air in them. The 2 front tires are more severe than the back 2.
Truck has 15k miles.
Continental said they will pay for 75% of a new tire. They are also blaming the roads here in Florida for the missing chunks. WTF?!? Never heard of that.
Ford dealership wants to charge me $1238 for all 4 tires including balance and mounting.

Apparently this seems to be an issue with Continental tires from what Ive been reading.
Dealer I bought the truck from told me yesterday they would the 25% that I would have had to pay here at my local dealer. So I am happy about that. Not really happy that Ill be getting a set of tires that has known issues unfortunately.

The dealership locally is telling me that these tires are not from the factory, even though they are OEM tires.
Apparently the DOT numbers are different on the sidewall. The two front tires have a different DOT number compared to the two back tires. They are telling me the tires have been swapped at some point.
They see in the computer that this was purchased as a Ford certified vehicle (which it was) and now they’re asking/questioning me how this truck was even certified when that is one of the requirements on the 172 point inspection?
Do NON matching DOT numbers mean the tires are not matching even though the mfg and model are the same?
It seems to me if this truck was purchased under the check list you show and that makes it "certified" then the so-called inspecting and certifying dealership would be 100% responsible for tire issues as you're observing. If they missed it there's nothing you've done to cause the failing tire tread.
Its rare to go through a transaction at a dealership where you won't be charged something----its part of their BS to maximize profits no matter how ethical or honest it is.
Non-matching DOT numbers shouldn’t have any effect or cause any issues; just means, as an example, that the tires may have been manufactured a week apart.
really no different than if you blew a tire a month after buying it, and had to buy a brand new tire. The DOT number on the new tire won’t match your other three tires (and that’s not a problem)
I’d be more concerned with the potential cause being the truck’s suspension. You don’t want to put new tires on and have bad suspension components wreck the new tires.
if the dealer that sold you the truck is saying that bad suspension is the culprit, have them fix (under warranty hopefully) the bad parts.
The dealership questioning the DOT non-matching numbers was total BS. I'd bet the matching involves only: Tire size as sticker & identical brand, tread depth check (maybe). I'd also bet, they've got a minimum wage employee doing 90% of the check-list.
It’s been almost 2 weeks. My dealership reached out to me yesterday to follow up on purchasing their tire repair/replace (road hazard) for $29 a tire.
are these plans worth it?
I'm 50/50 on those plans---never seem to pay off for me---and that's just me BTW as I'm sure there are many who've benefited from them. You'd want to weigh the cost of each tire purchased separately, the details of what's included coverage-wise along with the life expectancy of whatever they're insuring. I'd pay close attention to the pro-rated terms---those can leave you with no reimbursements after a relatively short time. Does that coverage include on-the-road service too?

Ford just told me that their warranty is $29 a tire for 3 years of coverage. Nails, glass, pot holes etc are covered. Basically anything that happens to tire from the road you are covered. Unlimited patches during 3 years and 1 tire replacement if patching cant be done during the warranty period. Tread depth cant be lower than 3/32" to get a free tire and nothing is pro rated. So if I need 4 patches in 3 years, I broke even. No deductible for any claims.
Think Im going to go with this plan for peace of mind
