This is my first post ever on a forum--please let me know if I'm missing any protocols or etiquette. I've owned four 7.3's (two OBS, two SD) since early '07 and have always been blown away by the knowledge and help on forums. Here I am, hoping for some help solving a problem.
I've got an '03 F250 with quite a lot of upgrades (done by the two previous owners). One of them is aftermarket (non-OEM) mirrors from the next body style (let's say [EDIT: '08 onward]?). A while ago, I clipped the driver's mirror and lost the mirror glass and backing. I threw a plastic bag over the assembly and taped a 5" fish-eye to it to get by. Over the past few months, I've tried to track down a replacement glass/backing but have had no real luck. I'm hoping that someone here might recognize the mirror that I've got and help me find the right replacement--I'm not that excited about replacing the entire assembly just to get the glass.
Most recently, a body shop employee suggested TrailRidge replacements but they're a bit too large. I'm attaching photos of my current passenger glass/backing and the TR for comparison. The TR has the white ring at the attachment point; mine is all black on the rear. Any ideas?
current pass backing current backing on L; TrailRidge on R shape difference: TR at rear (mirror visible), current at front
Why not just replace the whole mirror or mirrors rather than fix it? I bought these, you do need to trim the foam and 2 plastic pegs but they fit tight, no vibrations and are a huge improvement over stock. I believe A1 is a vendor here , you could contact them too.
Hey--thanks for the welcome. I'm glad to hear from you.
I've already got the later ('08 onward) mirror shape--my calling them '07s earlier is my mistake. I ordered a TrailRidge replacement mirror and backing mount--it's a little bit too tall for my housing. It's worth it to me to see if anyone here recognizes the shape before taking the assemblies off. Any ideas?
I'm almost certain I bought this replacement from 1A Auto--how can I find A1? They were very helpful in taking the return but the person I spoke with didn't have any suggestions on how to track mine down--fair enough and certainly both friendly and helpful.
For what you are spending...time and money...on the replacement, you could buy another set, install, and be done. I recently upgraded my mirrors with the 08 style that has the 17 style LED lights...turn signals, pucks, and work lights.

bwguardian--thanks for the suggestion. those downlights seem like a great addition. honestly, i'm must trying to avoid the hassle of removing and installing new housings. for now, it's easy enough to sniff around the internet but the time to yield and just buy new (like the ones you've suggested) isn't far away.

do those need an extra wire for the downlight?
They really don't take long to install. It's the wiring that will take a little more time. I wired the puck lights into the door courtesy lights right there in the front doors...easy peasy. They come on and either stay on or dim down like the others which is nice. They really light up where you have to utilize the side step to get up into the truck, which I really like. Because my truck didn't come from the factory with defrost mirrors I am having to set that up. I am also having to figure out the side work lights, which are very brite! I bought the switches that come on the Excursion for the defrost and plan on utilizing the other for the work lights which will go where the flip four wheel drive would go since mine is all manual...wanted somewhat a factory look.
If all you are doing is replacing the entire mirror, it takes about 15 minutes. It is really easy. If you have to modify wiring to adapt to the new mirror, that will be the bigger job, but just a replacement is super easy.
I've purchased replacement mirror glass for an '08 Sierra 2500 HD from K-Source on Amazon.
OP, have you tried them?
On other vehicles my experience with complete aftermarket assemblies is lackluster - they always look good from afar while sitting still but vibrate in the wind and often have a "funhouse" effect. Maybe aftermarket SuperDuty stuff is better...
My apologies for flaking out--I'm pretty unaccustomed to monitoring a post and the holidays sure didn't help. Thanks all around for the advice and input--super cool to hear all the advice and stories.
WWR-thanks for the suggestion. I'll check them out soon.
bwguardian--those lights sure do look great. Which are the work lights and pucks? Is one of these part of the turn signal? Or is the turn signal in the mirror?

Thanks again.
The puck lights are on the bottom of the mirror assembly. The running lights, turn signals, and work lights are all in that side light just like the 2017+ units.
