Part of the problem is that there isn’t a ROI to be gained from upgrading worn out tooling for these old parts. Tooling costs hundreds of thousands, who is gonna invest that to remake a new distributor cap for something that was obsolete 40 years ago.
They probably don’t make much money on these parts to begin with (relatively low demand) so using cheaper metals and plastics is one way to keep costs down.
Secondly, if parts were made here, we (I) probably couldn’t afford it.
average manufacturing salary is $61,000 here vs. only $9,000 in China.
Keep in mind a lot of environmental regs put the nail in the coffin for American manufactures.
How many chrome shops and radiator shops are there in 2019 compared to 1969?
Sucks, but I prefer affordable foreign parts vs. no parts at all.
I bought a horn from DC 6 toots and it was dead, they send me another. same thing but now winter went by and I don't drive it in the snow, so I called again and I was **** out of luck. then I found Hadley horns and never looked back, DC horns are made in china junk!
Currently two, but one retired recently and is traveling, so he hasn't been around in months.

Hey Bill, If you're talking about me. I'm still around, just busier than a long tail cat in a room full of rockers. Moving from central Florida to Virginia, building a new house, etc. I'm busier being "retired" than when I was working .

Mike, I was speaking of JEFFFAFA who posts in the 1967/72 forum. Jeff just retired, was a parts guy at Phoenix AZ Ford dealerships for 40 years, originally from Toledo OH
Jeff spends very little time on FTE now, as he's traveling with his gal pal between a condo in Mexico to Phoenix and etc environs. Some people have all the luck.
I have relatives in MA, several have said that when they retire, they're moving to FL .. I've been to FL 3 times, but wouldn't want to live there, due to the hurricanes.
btw: I was wandering thru the Flagler Museum in St. Augustine, spotted this huge band organ, a docent said would you like to hear it play? Of course.
So after the music concluded, I told the docent this tune wouldn't be popular in the South, as its title is When We Went Marching Through Georgia.
The docent asked why, and I told her this tune refers to General William Tecumseh Sherman!
