Strange power window comeuppance

So my driver window quit working a while ago and yesterday I decided to pull the lift motor off to find the problem, I disassembled the window motor and thoroughly cleaned and lubricated it so it works perfectly. Problem is now it goes up when it's supposed to go down and vice versa so I am wondering what I did to make it backwards as it's all the same parts and I put it together exactly as I took it apart and it only plugs in one way so I know the wires are not backwards. It's not particularly important I just want it to work correctly. Thanks.

If you pulled the motor completely apart, it probably had end caps with bearings on each end and a center section with wires correct? I bet you put the center section back in backwards. That would turn the windings around and make it run the wrong way.

When taking motors or anything like this apart, it's always good policy to make tick marks on the different sections. In your case a magic marker mark would have worked. I will take and strike one magic marker mark across the end cap/center section seam on one end, and strike two marks across the end cap seam on the other end. Do this for alternators, any sort of motor, pump, etc. If it's going to be cleaned in strong solvent (whatever you are taking apart) take a center punch and hammer and make tick marks in a place where it won't matter to line everything back exactly like it came apart.

P.S. If you don't want to take it all back apart again, just swap the wires. I would unwrap the harness back from the plug-in, cut the wires, swap them and solder them back in place. You will probably get some weather down in the door, so you need to pay special attention to any splice you make. If you don't want to solder and heat shrink, you could probably butt splice and heat shrink. Or they sell butt splices that have heat shrink made into the ends. You could also just butt splice, and then go to the hardware store and in the plumbing section they have this new-fangled self stick silicone tape. This stuff works great, you get it going and stretch it around what you want to seal, it works very good. I know the Do it Best hardware stores carry it.
