Yes, definitely. The new ones still get discolored and build up some gunk on them, but seems not to creep into the actual contact areas that always seem to show as clean shiny strips.
I wonder if it's strictly due to the design, or if the materials used are better suited?

This is actually true of every ground or ground & start or battery cable connection, SAE bullet connector, everything. Every electrical connection is a potential failure point. Meaning, the connection will start to degrade from the git go and eventually, fail. Dissimilar metals has something to do with this. Add to that the hardware or bolts securing connections tend to loosen a bit over time, too. Physically tight isn't necessarily electrically tight enough. The beauty is, everybody thinks yer a genius when ya fix their $&@t. LOL.
