Considering a 2013
Considering a 2013
So I totaled beloved truck and am forced to purchase a new one sooner than expected. The one I am looking at is a 2013 Supercrew F150 with the 5.0. What should I look for to ensure that it will be a good purchase? I know fluids and gear shifts but what about the coyote knock? I will admit that I have never owned a Ford before and know that all manufacturers have their little things to look at but the consensus overall is that the powertrain is pretty solid.
Well it has almost 71k miles and I am coming from a 2001 Silverado 1500 with the 5.3. I did just get back from San Antonio though with a 2001 F150 with the 4.2 V6 5 speed manual with the insane low 24k mileage for $5300 out the door! Friend of mine found it online last night and made a day of it with me. I was surprise on how close the power feels compared to the 5.3 and feel like I can easily get through nursing school start to finish provided no more accidents happen! When that happens perhaps I can look at a new Lariat....
As far as I can tell there's no rust. The only issue with it is neither of the rear doors open as of right now. When my back heals up I'll get around to fixing it. To be honest I'm happy not to have payments and sad not to have a newer vehicle. I live in SE Houston so I don't have to worry too much about rust

So my 2013 F-150 was destroyed/totaled/obliterated/ which ever word you like the best.
Lady driving a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer ran a red light at 40 to 45 miles an hour ( never braked or slowed down) was headed straight for the driver side door but she swerved and she hit the front left tire.
Totaled the truck out.
It was a regular cab xlt , long bed, 4 wheel Drive, 3.5 Liter Eco Boost with 4x4 off road package. Only had 48,000 miles on it.
Bought her new in December 2013 and got a good deal on it. Did not have that most hated of features the auto start stop tech on it.
Did have a problem with the six speed transmission under recall in summer of 2019 but dealership took care of that under warranty.
The dealership told me that the 2013 were the most difficult to repair under the tech bulletin that came out addressing the problem.
Replaced it with a 2019 Ford F-250 XL with STX and FX4 package, 6.2 Liter V-8. ( I nick named it the smile generator)
I am the kind of truck guy who will buy new and drive till wheels fall off if possible. My 2013 F-150 replaced my 1996 Ford F-150 Eddie Bauer Edition which I owned for 17+ years and had 187,000 miles on it.
It was still in good shape but need $5,000.00 repairs and high retail on it at the time was $3,750.00 so was no brainer for me at the time.
Have been a FORD TRUCK OWNER most of my adult life and am too old and stubborn to change that now.
