To avoid embarassment it's important to make a distinction, it can be somewhat confusing, always remember Veterans Day is in remembrance for those who served our country honorably in the military, Memorial Day is set aside to honor those killed in combat.

Veterans Day was originally known as Armistice Day, celebrated the end of The Great War aka The War To End All Wars .. later renamed WWI after WWII began.

Germany surrendered November 11, 1918.
