I have a 2001 F250 7.3 Powerstroke 4wd. 134xxx miles. Started haveing a problem with surging at idle then slowly started to lose power along with intermittent “hiccups” while driving. I just changed my oil and fuel filter 2 weeks before I started haveing problems. So far I’ve replaced my cps sensor, fuel pump, fuel filter, and finally dropped my tank. The in tank screens were clogged almost completely. Cleaned everything and put it back to gether and my power is back. But still surging at idle. Also I might’ve forgot to put the red rubber duckbill back on the pickup before I put it in.. 💁*♂️ Any ideas on what else could be causeing the surging? And is the duckbill necessary enough for me to drop my tank again? Any help is really appreciated!
Disconnect your ICP sensor and see if the surging stops. If it does..then you need a new ICP sensor. Also check the ICP pigtail for oil intrusion. The link I provided shows the location of the ICP. I had to do this to my 2001 this past spring.
Also, disconnect the fuel bowl heater and replace fuse 30 under the dash, since that can also cause surging. Doesn't always blow the fuse. Ask me how i know...
If those 2 free fixes/troubleshooting don't work, check the 42 pin connector wires for shorting against the drivers side valve cover
Just an rpm change. And just unplugged my icp sensor and it cleared up. Had some oil in plug.
Hell yeah! you can probably clean the ICP pigtail with some soap and water. Then blow it out with some compressed air. Just make sure it's completely dry and void of all oil.
hers the part numbers for ICP and pigtail (just in case)
Make sure that the tin nut on the IPR is not loose or fallen off.
I also one time had an oil leak at the HPOP connector, oil was making its' way down the back side of the ipr and oil was all over the magnet coil, and kind of screwing with the conductivity.
I fixed the oil leak at the HPOP connection hose, then cleaned up the ipr by taking the tin nut off and removing the magnet coil and put back on. Ran really well for a few days and then started acting up. Checked the tin nut on the ipr... it had fallen off and into the valley. Put back on a little tighter (not toooo tight) and runs great.
Be sure to get the Motorcraft sensor. If not, you'll be replacing it again SOON. I went through three of the cheap ones over the course of about 4 months before I ponied up for the one I should have bought in the first place. They all look alike, they are NOT built alike.

I have never dropped my tank. I am not sure what you are referring to. Can someone answer the question about the missing duck bill.?
If you Hutch and harpoon you can toss the duckbill. Probably won't make a difference without it otherwise since its still dumping the return right above the pickup
