I have an 89 5.8L F250 that seems to have a fuel delivery issue. Whenever it is hot outside or there are drastic temp changes, I have issues. I never experience issues during cold weather. When driving in hot conditions I will feel the engine stutter under load while pulling grades or with hard acceleration. Ive notice that when I unscrew the gas cap, I can hear a strong hissing noise like the tank is under negative pressure (This happens every time its hot outside). Ive replaced the fuel filter (2 months ago), replaced the inline fuel filter (1 months ago) and replaced the in tank fuel pumps (2 years ago).
Any ideas on what could be the issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Side note, I have resorted to not fully screwing on the gas cap when its hot outside. This seems to have fixed the problem and I have found the engine does not stutter or struggle when I leave the gas cap unscrewed...Only downside is the fix seems temporary and the cabin smells of emissions.
Pressure build up is normal. You should check your fuel vapor lines for being kinked or broken. A clogged EVAP canister or a failure in the purge control or vent solenoid can cause your issue. If that happens then your pressure build up is above normal and why you are smelling emissions with the cap off also. Sandy
