F100 stalling when hot

i have replaced the entire fuel delivery tank to carb, new wires new voltage regulator new gas. Timing is correct, etc. I can start it and run it for about 30 minutes, and then it stalls like it’s running out of fuel. Let it rest and it starts up. Air temps are around 75 degrees and I’m not driving in traffic. Pretty much driving it in circles on my property to try and see why this is happening. Vapor lock? My thought is that it’s really not that hot and the truck is moving when it stalls. Any help would be appreciated or I might have a f100 for sale

I have been struggling with the same issue.... Vapor lock has been the diagnosis.

I have replaced everything from the tank forward and still have the issue. I can see the fuel vaporizing in the clear filter between the fuel pump and carb.

I have a 351m and have noticed with headers the steel fuel line runs close to the aftermarket header. I will reroute when time permits.

Tank vent? If your tank or gas cap isn't vented properly, the pump will create a vacuum on the tank. I fought that for a while. It was wearing out fuel pumps. Someone on here asked me if I had a vented cap, and my answer was yes. But it wasn't vented enough I guess. I drilled a small hole at an angle in the cap. I just make sure the hole is pointed down. I haven't been able to find a better cap. I've got an aftermarket, non emissions type fuel tank, so I don't have an outlet to run a vent.

A few ways to check: Install a clear fuel filter just before the carburetor. When at idle and things are normal, the filter should be full of fuel and even though it's flowing, you can't tell. If it's partially full and bubbling, there's an issue. Could be fuel pump, tank not venting, clogged filter, etc. If you observe the filter is half full and bubbling, try removing the fuel tank cap and then watch the filter. If it fills up, then it's probably poorly vented tank.

my truck is all stock so other then running 10% ethanol vapor lock shouldn’t be an issue.

Do you have the resistance wire on the coil? If you don't the coil tends to overheat and cause a no spark condition.

Ford390, I didn't think of that. It sure could be the problem. One of the reasons I switched to HEI.

The first thing I'd do is as stated above, put a clear filter on it (I put mine on right before the pump) and see if it is getting fuel when it does this.

You replaced the tank correct? Did you replace it with the same kind of eec or non-eec tank that you had before?
Was your filler neck in good shape? (Not collapsing)

Could also be the coil, but it does seem like it would be fuel system related since it was good before.

At the time it stops running, check to see what's missing ----------fuel or spark ------------then narrow down the culprit.

I'm asking because my understanding is that the two different tank types vent the tank differently.

What distrubutor do you have? Points or electronic pick up?

Maybe a different angle of looking at it from a spark perspective.

I had a 302 in the past with an electronic pick up in the distributor.. when the engine would warm up (After about 30 mins or so), the electronic pick up would no longer work, the engine would shut off and i would have to wait for the engine to cool off for a while and then it would start again. Replaced the pick up and never had the issue again.

It’s electronic. It looks like the distributor had been replaced at some point.

I have the electronic ignition in this truck I only see 2 wires coming from the coil. Am I missing something?
