Hello everyone. I just picked up a new to me 2014 F150 XLT Ecoboost 2x4 with just shy of 40k miles. I’m usually found over in the 7.3 or 6.0 diesel sections and it’s all I’ve ever known. Being that this is my first gasser is there a little insight to this truck that I should know? Anything to look out for? Also what oil do y’all recommend I use? I’m looking to change it this weekend but not sure what to use. I live in a south Texas region and it usually doesn’t get any colder than 30 degrees in the dead of winter but gets well over 100 in the summers. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
My personal recommendation is to run any SN rated 5w30 oil(or 10w30 in your climate even) but to not exceed 5K miles on the oil changes. The early ecoboost engines tend to put a little fuel in the oil over time so changing it out is in a timely manner is pretty important.
Watch the coolant level. Leaks from the T connector and the water pump are both common. Also there is a fuse relocation kit for the fuel pump that I recommend doing preemptively. Better to do it before you're stuck somewhere due to the factory fuse being melted to the panel.
Plan on doing spark plugs at 60k instead of the typical 100k most gas engines call for now.
So far I’ve been bitten by the following common failures
EPAS otherwise known as electronic power assist steering
water pump
fuse 27
coolant t connector leak
engine oil pressure sensor ( you’ll **** your pants when that fails but you’ll know it’s just the sensor if the alarm goes away with engine rpm)
sitting a few miles over 80,000 as of today, awesome truck but could’ve done without the problems especially well before 100k miles

The EPAS is definitely not a high failure item but sadly I remember when your did fail. Big pill / bill to swallow.
The other items seem to be more 5.0L specific whereas the ecoboost has it's own inherent issues.
Thanks for the the info I’ll definitely keep a look out!! Like I said I’m totally new to the gas game, I’m so used to the diesels but I’ve had the truck for about 3 days and I’ve already put about 500 miles on it and I’m definitely in love with it!! That little eco boost really gets up and goes.
1.4 million vehicles recalled across other vehicles in Fords lineup which use epas. F150 has had epas recalled in smaller amounts not because it’s less of a problem in them rather the massive volume sold would require a deep reach into the pockets. This forum while great doesn’t represent but a minuscule amount of actual F150 drivers out there, heck usually it seems like about the same dozen or so guys posting. To be honest yes I felt burnt by the epas replacement but when it happened to me it didn’t take long to figure out how common it is with some guys having it happen multiple times. So if it hasn’t or doesn’t happen to your truck that’s great just don’t be surprised if or when it does.
