Stock Running Boards

I believe my 01 has stock running boards on it and I wanna paint them in bed liner material. I am looking for a material that has some texture to it like a line x solution. Want it to feel a little rough to the touch.

Has anyone had experience with these and what brand should I use to get this texture feel I want??

I got a pair of take off OEM running boards for $100 for my 2016 F350 shortly after I got the truck. As I do not care for chrome, I did the same thing. The shop that does the after market bed liners would not coat the boards. So I went with the dupli color bed liner coating. I removed all the plastic parts, buffed everything with a 60 grit sanding wheel and applied the dupli color by their instructions. They looked good for about a year but then the coating began to flake off. So I was not happy. I then went with the black I board running boards. Only about $250 for the wheel well to wheel well length. They have been on about 3 years and still look new. So I would not recommend coating them based on my experience. One item is that mine were chrome and you could have better results coating bare or painted metal.
