Brand new to this forum.Hoping to get some answers to the incident I'm about to describe.
Vehicle is a 2003 F550 6.0l, I was towing my fifth wheel toy hauler at 60mph with the cruise and tow/haul mode on as I have done many times. I started dow a small hill and then all of a sudden it did a violent downshift the rear wheels locked up and screeched. Trashed my tranny. I've googled and found similar instances but not as severe as mine.
Any help on understanding why this happened would be appreciated.
Thanks Gary
Were any codes stored when it happened? An over boost code limits you to a limp mode that immediately reduces max accelerator input to 35% and if you're towing up a hill, that can produce a harsh shift. I'm not sure if an under boost code will do the same. It happened to me when my vgt vanes were sticky due to rust, but didn't damage anything.
Yes it had a MAP, ICP, and OVER BOOST codes. This happened going down hill and knocked the tranny into neutral. Once I got stopped it had blown the intercooler hose off.
No, after the dealer had fixed the intercooler hose. I personally drove it out of shop. There was a pause before it went into drive then shifted funny. Left it at dealer overnight ,they took it out for a drive the following morning and only made it a couple of miles before it would no longer go. Multiple tranny codes when checked back at dealer.
My questions...did intercooler hose come off first? Why did tranny downshift going 60mph? Tow/haul mode responsible?
