E40d issue

Hey everyone I’m new to this site. I have a 1996 f-250 7.3 with a e40d. 2 years ago I blew up the motor in my truck. So I did a cab off restoration while the block and heads were getting machined. I got the whole truck back together and have been chasing this problem for over a year now. Ive has the transmission rebuilt twice.My transmission is limp mode I think. The first time it was rebuilt it melted al the clutches in second gear.It has reverse and two forward gears. I believe it has 2nd gear and 3rd gear. If I put the shifter in manual 1st. It goes into first gear. I put it back in drive it goes back to 2nd and 3rd gear only. I’ve check all the wiring going to the transmission and replaced the solenoid harness. The over drive light does not flash and the only light on the dash is a abs light. My scanner won’t tell me why the abs light is on. It does have live data and appears all the sensors are reading as they should be. The computer is telling the transmission to shift through all the gears. Somewhere it is not getting to the transmission or the solenoids are bad. I was wondering if someone could help steer me in the right direction as to what my issue could be.
