just wondering if anyone has thought about manufacturing adjustable rear front spring hangers and possibly an extended rear shackle? I’m not able to physically look at my 59 now as I’m away for work but I thought it might be a good alternative to the axle flip or reverse eye spring.
the 56 f100 has them on the aftermarket and I know Sid from dropped axles makes them but as always there is a gap in the market for the 57-60. At least we have had a victory with the cab corners!
So it turns out Sid from Dropped Axles sells adjustable spring hangers and extended shackles. I have been emailing and it turns out that the 57-60 hangers and shackles are not listed on the website. I have put in an order for a pair of both. The estimated drop is 5 1/2 to 6 inches drop in the rear using both hangers and shackle combination.
Thought this might be helpful info for anyone wanting to lower their truck and not have to flip the axle.
I just installed the rear spring hanger from Sid’s. I did not get the extended shackle for the rear of the spring. That along with removing 2 springs from the rear got me at 27” from ground to bottom of the fender in the rear. I’m about 1/4” from the bump stops. Gotta remove them. Might have to c notch. I’m on 225/75/15 tires. Getting ready to install my mustang ii from cpp
what would the benefit of the extended shackles be?
the extended shackles are longer and essentially raise the rear spring eye higher and therefore bringing the axle up. Just if you want some more drop, but by the sounds of it they are not needed and the hangers get the truck low enough! Do you have any pictures of the install?
Sorry no install pics. Pretty straightforward though. Just use a cutting wheel on an angle grinder to cut off the old rivot heads that mount the original spring hanger. Buy some new bolts and nuts and install the new hangar. Leave everything hand tight till it’s all in. I had to beat the rear shackle to angle It forward to line up the spring eye. I used the 4° shims Sid’s sells as well.
bjano00, what did you do on the front to drop it too? Did you go with a drop axle up there as well or something else? If you went drop axle, which one did you use, 3 or 4" drop? Your ride height is pretty much the same I'm looking to get on my '58 but wasn't sure if the 3" would be enough. TIA for any info!
In this pic I just removed a few leafs out of the front leaf packs. I think it lowered about 4-5 inches from stock. I’m in the process of installing a new mustang ii though
