This might have been asked but trying to search hasnt found me my answers. SO i need new shocks, both rears wont extend and passenger front is starting to leak oil. Skyjacker customer service said they will warranty them even though ive had them for like 8years on my truck. BUT I might wanna go up in lift height so ill need longer shocks anyways....so back to my real question. Hydro or nitro shocks? Im well aware a F350 is not gonna ride like im sitting on a cloud so will a regular hydro shock be ok for a truck thats street driven, tows/hauls on occasion and goes in the dirt/mud only during hunting season?
Save a little money here and it can go into the Christmas fund for the kids
I would recommend the Pro Comp ES9000 shocks. They are about 40 buck a piece compared to 80 for bilstiens. If you order them for stock height, they will also work for up to 2" of lift in the future. If you buy them at 4 Wheel Parts, you can get their warranty for a few bucks and it covered no matter what for 5 years!
I personally have Bilstein 5100's all around and like the firm ride. I had a pair of Pro Comp ES9000's in the rear and felt they were a bit soft for our trucks. YMMV
Like i said a super duty isnt gonna ride like a fluffy cloud. But if a standard hydro shock wouldnt increase the hardness then im all in. All were doing here is slowing down compression and rebound, its not like the suspenion on my motorcross bike
Nitro shocks, in general, have a stiffer ride because they're more performance oriented. Hydro shocks are generally a softer ride. I'd try and get the largest diameter, tuned, hydro shock, that's spec'd for your body /bed /engine configuration you can fit, if you could get an adjustable shock it'll give you more options to dial the ride in. A general purpose shock that's just listed for a large range of trucks, say something listed for all 99-04 250/350s will give a considerably different ride from a rcsb 5.4 to a cclb 7.3.
