Hello all and thank you for your help here!!! I want to buy new shocks for my 1998 F-150 ext-cab just need some help on the type i should buy!!! I hear people say skyjacker,blisten,pro-comp can anyone help me out.I want a nice smooth ride in truck cause now it is ruff i have 35-inch super swampers on truck with 3 inch body lift!!!Thank you everyone
I have Skyjacker but all those shocks that you mention will do the job. But i would talk with a Off road shop and i mean an actual shop that deal with off road products or you can call places that sell off road products and ask them. Cause when it comes down to it it's your money so do some checking and you might do some searching on FTe about shocks that will also help you make a decision.
I agree with T67, ask around locally. I've used Rancho 5000 series shocks on every truck I've owned since the 70's, excluding my current 84 Bronco. It has Skyjacker shocks that came with the lift kit, but they ride similar to Rancho's.
I often do a simple test with other trucks and their shocks to compare to mine. Stand by the side of the bed, and push on the side of the bed with one hand. Most standard or worn out shocks will have alot of play, where the whole truck moves several inches side-to-side. Try that with a Rancho or Skyjacker- set-up, and you have to push hard with both hands to even move the bed or rear of the truck.
If you were to stand on the rear bumper and try to bounce it up-and-down, you'll likely get bucked off with an OEM shock. An offroad shock like the Rancho will hardly move. The road manners and ride quality are not overly harsh like riding in a buggy, either. Both of these brands have a lifetime/1,000,000 mile warranty, and I have never, ever broken a Rancho shock. definitely explain what kind of ride you expect, I didn't, I thought a shock is a shock I got BDS 1-3" lift shocks and it rides really hard, I don't like it personnaly
