Brake Light Switch

This summer I completed a really easy fix on my 2004 Ford Excursion 6.0 powerstroke diesel and I wanted to share it in hopes that it helps others.
The fix I performed was to 'clean' my Brake Light Switch copper contacts. I didn't video my work however the following YouTube link describes exactly what I did:
Although this part in Canada is approx. $36; I was able to save that expense and any repair shop fees by following the video referenced.

WHY did I do this? I did this as my Brake Lights on the back of the vehicle weren't lighting up unless I pushed the brake pedal straight to the floor. (Note, the back upper middle glass light WAS working - just my left/right brake lights weren't)

Now here is the bonus I got after I did the clean up. I didn't realize that by doing this clean-up that this would also correct the following issues I had been having for years!

1. Cruise Control - when braking to disengage the cruise control I had to tromp on the pedal thus making for a very hard dis-engagment. It was so bad that i tended to use the Cruise Control OFF button on the steering wheel.
1a. After the brake light switch clean - cruise control dis-engagement is smooth and subtle
2. Electronic Trailer Brakes - were not working at all when i was towing my RV.
2a. After the brake light switch clean - trailer brakes are engaging and ultimately are saving my truck brakes from over usage.
3. Switching FROM Park TO Drive / Reverse is no longer a struggle and constant wiggling of the steering column gear shifter.
3a. After the brake light switch clean - shifting from gear to gear with a slight push of the brake pedal is smooth.
4. Brake Lights - not working at all unless pedal is to the floor
4a. After the brake light switch clean - brakes lights are working with the slightest of touch

Thanks for posting this. I have the same #3 issues as you did. Looks like a simple weekend fix.

Where in Canada are you located?

Very easy fix! The worst part was getting the green clip out/back in - but mostly due to the awkwardness of being under the steering column.
Barrie Ontario!

Good luck with your weekend job!
