02 DIESEL CRUISE CONTROL PROBLEM
I recently pruchased an 02 power stroke with 95 000 miles, always wanted one found this one in really nice condition, But the cruise dont work all the time. I replaced the switches in the wheel still the same thing. Is there a way to clean the contacts on the wheel? When it does work it works as it should. Just sometimes it wont turn on. I feel it is a contact problem but not sure. Has anyone else had this problem? thanks
Update: tried the brake pedal this am no luck, cc worked all the way home just like it should. One other thing when the cc does not work , if you hold in the on button and push the coast button the horn blows, , has to be a conection some where. guess i will take the steering wheel apart this weekebnd

This is a longshot....but it is possible. It could be your brake switch. As you know, when you tap your brakes it cancels the cruise control. If the switch is bad, or there is play causing the switch to be partially engaged while driving, it will prevent the CC from working. (the CC "thinks" you're touching the brakes)
If you can safely do it while driving 30 mph or higher.....Check to see if your brake pedal will pull up from it's normal position with the top of your foot while engaging the cruise. If the CC works everytime while holding the pedal up.....there's your problem.
Now it is also possible the brake switch is sticking slightly sometimes, causing the CC to not engage.
If you don't feel like testing it, you can just get the switch for around $20 or so. It's under the dash, follow the brake pedal linkage up till you see it.
Oh, and just because your brake lights don't stay on all the time means nothing....the first enagement of the brake turns off cruise, and further pressure turns on the brake lights. It is a very slight movement difference.
Good luck.
