Lockhaven Green Ford paint

I live in Lock Haven (two words), PA. It got its unique name from the West Branch Canal which was part of the Pennsylvania Canal system. The town is built on the peninsula formed by the confluence of the West Branch of the Susquehanna River and the Bald Eagle Creek. There was the Bald Eagle Cross-cut Canal that went through town that connected the West Branch Canal with the bald eagle canal. So the town was named to commemorate the Cross-cut Canal lock and the rivers safe haven for canal boats.

Anyhow, today I'm reading my November/December issue of Vintage Truck. There's a nice story about a family owned 1941 Ford truck. The original color was Lockhaven (one word) Green. It's very pretty. The article said it was used exclusively in 1941. I had never heard of Lockhaven Green paint before. I have heard of Lockhaven (one word) Yellow which got its name because it was the color used to paint the famous Piper Cub. Why this paint is spelled as one word, I do not know.

But can anyone tell me more about Lockhaven Green? How did it get its name? And did Ford use it later on other cars or trucks.

And, no. I will not paint my trucks Lockhaven Green!

I wouldn't spend too much time on the research of this name...in my experience these names had little to no significance. GM for instance had one paint code for the yellow they used on six divisions of automobiles, they could not use the same name for a color on a Corvette that they used on a Cadillac so there were MANY names for the same paint code. Good luck on your search though...

Not much of an expert on paints. In Orange County, CA in my circle in mid 1970's seems most guys with early '40's trucks were old Bell telephone trucks painted in what we called Bell Telephone green.
I suppose you already did a google search on Bell Telephone Green Ford.
Anyway there are some green Fords under images.
Here is one (not a 40's, but a Bell Telephone truck of your type anyway):

Maybe one year Ford called it Lockhaven, and Bell liked it? Hard to compare colors in magazine with photograph on screen, different lighting, age, tints, dyes, sun fading, wax, angles, variation in computer renderings. Looks sort of close on my screen anyway, parts in shade more close than glares off fronts.

Don't tease us like that, John. If you have unique codes and factory scribbles, post 'em up. Useless bits of trivia like that are what we live for here, as evidenced by the number of decode questions we get all the time.

I have the hood that was on my panel too that has the same scribbles marks with Meadow green on it. Another interesting note is the 2 rivets that everyone says is on 56 hoods only. This is the fifth 56 I've owned and none of them have them but the hood from the 53 I used on my pickup has them. All five 56's and the 53 all came from the Oakville plant in southern Ontario..
I'll get a picture of the scribble on this Mercury tomorrow but the hood from my panel is buried in the back of my storage tent..

Yes it is! And its not off topic. As I said above that is why that shade of paint is called Lockhaven Yellow.

My 55 parked next to a Piper Cub last year at the annual Piper Fly in.

Matter of fact at The Central PA Mountain Truckstock we toured the Piper Museum. I have a call in to the Museum president to see if he has heard of or knows about Lockhaven Green.

Yea the reason your 56s don’t have the bolts on the hood is USA ford sent all the inferior parts to the oakville plant

It might be the other way round Kevin seeing as the 53 hoods here had them. What's inferior with the hoods without them..? I don't see any evidence of anything failing in any of the hoods in that area..
