1990 speedometer cable removal from cluster?
I have experience removing gauge clusters from old VWs and it's pretty easy. I'm trying to pull the instrument cluster from my 1990 F-250, following the instructions in my Chilton for it, and it's not very helpful. The entire assembly is loose and I can more it an inch or two but the speedo cable seems to be holding it back enough that I can't fit my long & very skinny hand under the cluster to get to the "easy disconnect" head! I tried attacking from under the dash but with the wiring runs and heavy framing around the steering column I can't find any space to squeeze in enough to grab the head to disconnect it.
What's the secret to removing the speedometer cable from the instrument cluster?

Never mind. I went under the truck and pushed some of the slack in the speedo cable forward and into the cab. That gave me about two more inches to pull the cluster out more, squeeze my hand under it from the right side, and squeeze the retainer to free the cable. I was then able to pull it out an inch more and release the two electrical connectors (one on each side).
What a PITA. Not looking forward to putting that back in
