87 5 liter f150 wont crank STILL . Replaced key lock cylinder , ignition switch , starter solenoid -- (jumped the starter by the way & it works fine ) ,Does anyone know where the starter relay is located in these trucks - Thats the only thing I havent replaced . You can hear the fuel pump cut on when you try to crank but that is it --no power getting to starter . I dont see a fuse box ,usually where the relays are on all vehicles I have worked on .
Any help muchly appreciated
If you have a voltage testing meter, pull the small wire off of the solenoid and have someone crank the engine. If you don't have 12v at that wire the solenoid won't pull in to power the starter.
sounds like the ignition actuator broke.
do you feel resistance when you go from run to start? does the key return to run from start position or stay in start?
when I replaced the switch after dropping the steering coluum , THE actuater rod was moving back & forth when I turned the key to on then off . So I assumed the actuater was ok ??

Just because the actuator is working doesnt mean you have voltage traveling to where it needs to go. Need to see if you have voltage at the small wire.
You said you jumped the posts and the starter worked, so the solenoid is working. Which means you dont have power at the wire that makes the solenoid engage.
If it's a manual check the clutch switch, if it's an automatic check the range selector to make sure it's in park.
So i just got my truck last wednesday and had the same exact issue. I replaced ALL the ground cables that go from the starter and the battery terminals also.
Heres how i did it. Not saying its correct but it worked for me.
All cables i bought from the local autozone/ O'Rileys.
I used 3 in total.
I have:
1 from the starter to the battery terminal.
1 from the alternator to the battery terminal.
1 from the battery terminal to the fender wall.
Also replaced the positive side "red" terminal cable.
I did not replace the cable from the starter to the starter solenoid only because like you if i jump the starter solenoid it turns the starter over. I wish I would have though since i was down there and got all kinds of greasy. I will replace it soon enough.
I now have all my lights working and the truck turns over from the column with the key.
Thanks for the reply -didnt think of the clutch safety switch Duh ! Is that switch located on the inside above the clutch pedal or on the firewall side
