Maybe an odd question but I'll ask. Do RV's, TT, etc have to stop at weigh stations? I never have in the past but especially in lost ca, I wouldn't doubt they start requiring it?
If it's a not for hire load then no you don't. If you have DOT numbers and are transporting the RV then yes. I do see pickup trucks with trailers for hire such as sponsored horse trailers and racecar trailers stopping occasionally. Also because its California they also have loop holes for everything so if the truck including pickup is over 8,001 unladen then can make you stop and if the truck is over 11,500GVW then you are also supposed to. However no one does and the signs say no pick up trucks. They do enforce rental trucks stopping and that's all I have really seen in the last 37 years of going to the California CHP coop's.
This can get complicated when it comes to larger pickup trucks. For pickups, it will depend on their gross vehicle weight ratings (GVWRs). A pickup truck that has one or more of the following is required to stop at a weigh station:
A GVWR of 11,500 pounds or more
An unladen weight of 8,001 pounds or more
An open box-type bed exceeding nine feet
A utility body or flatbed instead of a pickup bed
Knowing and understanding the commercial status of a vehicle is important since failing to stop at an inspection site is a misdemeanor.
Thanks, good to know. I've pulled Uhaul trailers with my Jeep and never stopped. Just didn't want to push my luck. Ca is getting 'stupid' money hungry so thought I'd ask
