Question Will my Bronco worK

OK. I purchased a 1986 Bronco to replace my rusting out 84. My problem is this. The 86' used to be fuel injected. The giy before me took the injection out and put an Eldebrock manifold and carb on the 302. Is this possible while keeping the stock EEC-iv Distributor? He disconnected all the sensors as well.

The reason I ask is because when he sold me the Bronco, he kept the carb and manifold and I went and purchased new items.

Will this Bronco run?

Will my Bronco work

I have seen it work. He claimed it did. Again the fuel injections was already removed and he installed a 4 barrel Edellbrock manifold and carb, but kept the original distributor.

I have already gone out and found at a salvage yard and stock 2 barrel carb and intake.

Will the distributor still work without the other sensors since it is still connected to the ECA?

with out the other sensor it cant work right, because if relys on the readings to determine when and how to advance the timming, if your gona run a carb go to the salvage yard and the stuff to convert it to a DURASPARK II its very simple. DW

OK. The dura-spark should be extremely easy to install? Also this would mean that I would need to pickup a different distributor also.

Now... I am still a novice when it comes to the electronics, but what would the duraspark ignition hookup to? Would the wiring schemes in the Haynes manual help me?

Any suggestions?

Well DW, I finished putting together my 86 with the ******* ignition and as probably expected it would not start. It is getting fuel and spark, but I think you were right that since the sensors were all removed it won't start. So I will be looking at either going and finding at a salvage yard a dura-spark ignition or purchasing a MSD ignition. Should there be any thing that I do first?

well I'm not shure, but if you have fuel and you have spark at the plugs it should fire up, but then again the ecm controls the ignition and it dont know what everything else is doing so it probaly confused too! DW

Well, I know the coil is producing spark because it almost knocked me on my butt when I was testing that. I am going to to try and see if the plugs are getting juice. Any suggestions? I made sure that when I put the distributor back in the motor that the #1 cyinder was in compression stroke at TDC. So the distributor is installed correctly.

Thanks BTN, but I would rather stay away from points. I had a bad experience with them and since this Bronco is going to be a daily driver I would really much rather have an electronic ignition. Much more reliable.

Have you considered getting the rest of the pieces to put it back as an EFI setup? Since you're looking for reliability, that's going to be your absolute best bet.

You might consider asking the previous owner if he would like to part with all the EFI pieces that he removed.

Well. I actually got this beast running this weekend. I still need to hook up the throttle kick down bar and put sometires on it and then I will be able to test drive it. It is doesn't run like it is supposed to because of the missing sensors, I have already found Dura-spark II ignition components and will install those. Keep your fingers crossed.

By the way DW, I was a knuckle head when I told you the carb was getting fuel because come to find out, the tank completely dry. It took me 8 hours and lots of frustration to figure this out. Once I put some fuel in and set the distributor correctly, it fired right up. Thanks for all your help. I will keep you updated on my progress.
