New ranger question, why so big?
This truck I'm building will be far better equipped than it was in 65. 4 wheel disc brakes, power everything, EFI, AC, heck even heat! I have rack and pinion steering with steering assist, and will have a stereo system with GPS and a backup camera. Aside from the toys it will still be able to haul anything a new truck can, it will just look a lot better doing it.
I'm not against new trucks, but if you can't get a new one how you want it, why spend that much. I won't have half the cost in my truck as a new ranger costs(not a hot rod by the way), and I won't have the typical stack of payments either. Plus, I will be able to work on it myself, which is not so easy on the new stuff.
I'm not knocking the new ranger. It's alright. It's just not what I expected. For those who like it, it's great. I think if I was to spend $30k on a new truck, it would at least be the F-150. You get more truck for the money from what I can see. And by that I don't mean gadgets, I mean truck.
I'm sure Ford could care less what I think or do. I'm not building a hotrod. I'm reviving a truck. It's not going to be all chrome or have 600hp. Just a 5.0 5spd truck. Not sure why you would think I would build a truck that wouldn't start in the cold? I am on the Ford forum right? That was kind of a Chevy assumption there. This truck I have will have modern conveniences. GPS, backup camera, oh yes, heat and AC. Power everything. I'm debating about whether I want air ride or just regular old springs like the new trucks have..... And as far as accidents are concerned, I will just have to outdrive the incoming idiots who are texting instead of looking where they are going. Along with that, I will be able to haul anything a truck can haul. I'm not building any hotrod. I'm making an old truck new again for daily use, not for car shows.
I like sticks too and have a '91 BMW 318is in the garage for my toy. But we don't drive old stuff in the winter in Michigan because it turns into a pile of iron oxide.
Most '65 vehicles of all kinds are already there and been thru the crusher.I'm going to go back to my truck project. Thinking about these new rolling computers is giving me a headache. Lol
Good luck with your new truck. I have nothing against it. It's just not what I expected.

I have to drive stuff thru Michigan winters and it breaks my heart to drive special or classic vehicles thru salted roads. I don't think a 64 year old antique truck is anything that normal people would ever consider or be able to deal with. If it works for you, good. You should get on a TV show because that's a cool thing. A bud of mine just sold a '54 Chevy pickup (with a small block V8 in it). He built it for his late wife (bought it partially built and got help with critical stuff) and she was afraid to drive it. I'm sure she would have been fine with a Ranger or Colorado.
Seriously, good luck with your project if you're really serious about it,
George
As for my project, I really am in the middle of it. One thing I've tried hard to do is keep it all Ford so that down the road if I do have a problem, I can get it fixed at s first dealer if necessary. My front end, axle, brakes, steering and suspension is out of a 2008 Ford crown Victoria interceptor. Engine and computer, wiring, etc from a 95 mustang. Trying my best to stay true to the blue oval. For reliability and longevity. And their engineering!
Thank you sir, and again, sorry! Earl
The 2007 regular cab Ranger was 188" long and 69" wide. The Supercab was 202" long.
2019 Ranger is 210" and 86".
So yes, quite a bid wider, but length is pretty comparable to the old Ranger.
