Looks like Ford is trying to kill off the Ranger. Options and configurations have declined even more for the 2010 Ranger. I will be in the market for a midsize truck in the future but honestly it looks like I'll be getting a Tacoma. Have always owned Fords and still own Fords seeing the Ranger go this way is dissapointing.
The Ranger is still a good truck. I'm on my 3rd Ranger - a 2010 supercab Sport. It has quite a few new features including 4 wheel disc brakes, side airbags, auxillary audio jack, and anti roll traction control. Also, being the same basic truck since 1983, it's very reliable. Over the years, Ford has worked out most of the bugs. The jury is still out on whether Ford actually discontinues the Ranger. My bet is that they won't.
Toyota will cost you more. Tacoma is a mid-size while the ranger is still a small truck. Toyota is a good truck, too. I'm not bagging on them. (Hopefully they won't have the mystery acceleration problems they are becoming famous for.)
You'll be happy with either, but you won't get the nice FTE forum folks with a Toyota.
I agree, I recently bought a new 2010 Ranger 2 wd, with a 2.3L and 5speed. I just wanted something reasonably easy on gas, with some truck practicality, for my daily 50 mile comute. The Ranger is the only true small truck still being made, all the other "small" trucks have gone mor mid size, like the Dodge Dakota. I don`t need a truck bigger than the Ranger, I still have my F350 for the heavy stuff. Frankly, I think that there are almost too many options on trucks these days. The F150 has what, 8 different trim levels?! I factory ordered my Ranger the way I wanted it, you can`t do that with a Toyota. Factory orders not available with Toyota. You will also pay more $$$ for the Toyota. I work as a Toyota dealership mechanic, and I did consider a Tacoma, but I prefer the looks and size of the Ranger, plus I don`t like a few things about the Tacoma, mainly the plastic box floor, and the ugly (IMO), non symetrical wheel openings. Plus I wanted a regular cab, which Toyota doesn`t offer anymore. Plus by buying the Ranger, I saved money, and helped keep the Twin Cities Minn. plant open for a few more minutes. Signed a Toyota fixing Canadian who has been a Ford fan for almost 40 years.
