I have a 1988 f150 custom short bed 4x4 5.0 with the t18 trans if I'm correct 4 speed with od.
I literally have replaced ever sensor and wires and vacuum lines on this truck she idles great.
I didnt know these trucks came with a flat tappet cam. Now I have so much fuel going out the tailpipe and can not figure it out. Also I am in California, any help I would love

The folks that know about this kind of thing don't usually frequent the "New Member Introductions" forum. You might might want to post in "1987 - 1996 F150 & Larger F-Series Trucks" to get some answers flowing.

Welcome aboard!

The T-18 transmission is a four speed transmission with a 1:1 fourth gear (no overdrive.) The M5OD is a 5 speed and so is a ZF5 but the ZF has a very low first gear. Both of those have overdrive.

I can see why you would replace brittle and cracked vacuum hoses. Why did you literally replace every sensor and wires? Have you tried retrieving fault codes? There can be codes (either active or stored) present even without the check engine light on.

My fuel consumption is horrible, too. I haven't figured out how to make it better, but I'm only running on 7 at the moment, so I'd like to get that sorted first. You can find on line instructions to read the codes with a jumper wire and counting CEL flashes on the dash. Give that a try and see if anything comes up.
