1953 Ford F-100 Looks Ready for Any Concours

1953 Ford F-100 Looks Ready for Any Concours
By Brett Foote

Immaculately restored '53 Ford F-100 might just be the nicest one in existence.

Ready for Concours? I don't think so.

It is a beautiful truck, but not a stock Concours restoration. Let's see why. I'll start.
1. Stainless bumpers
2. Stainless hubcaps.

I'll leave other errors for you guys. Start with #3. Here are some pics.

Those mirrors came on later trucks and were often retrofitted, but I don't think they were factory in 1953.

ABS firewall cover....not in 1953.

Bed wood was body color from the factory, I think. But the black looks better.

"numbers matching" for engine/chassis isn't Ford terminology, as there is no number on the block to tie it to the specific VIN.

Points off for concours judging!

But it still looks really nice...

rob, all 3 are correct.

i was wondering where you saw the bed wood..... then i found it. here is where more pics are: https://inventory.driversource.com/v...1953-ford-f100

now here is a better stock red 53 restoration.

compare this 53 to the contented curators 53.... and notice the correct mirrors.

this was restored by chuck of chucks trucks. i got the pics off ebay. here is a pic from chucks website. is this chuck?

Neither one of those has the correct seat material
also the article says it came with radio and heater. It has a heater delete plate on the firewall and no heater. Still a fine example

Wow! Both of those are beautiful.
Would you remove points for the wide whites and step plates?
Shouldn't the custom cab have stainless windshield trim?
Was the speaker really up there? I assume the dome light was standard on the custom cab.

It's for sale, Or the site seems to indicate that. I wonder what they are asking for it.

I knew the Contented Curator truck had the wrong color seat material.

Anything else, Kevin? Or do you want to let others play?

It’s probably the nicest and most correct truck the Curator has featured. I’m not going to drag them through the ditches.

Shouldn't the custom cab have stainless windshield trim? 53-55 Custom (called Deluxe Cabs in 53&54) Cabs did not have windshield trim, 56 did.
Was the speaker really up there? I assume the dome light was standard on the custom cab. Yes, correct place for speaker. Dome light came with Custom or Deluxe Cabs with door switches.

Answers above.

Any more non-stock errors? I see some more.

I like how both trucks substituted the seat material with something new (leather?) but kept a very original look with the color choices. The original vinyl seat material was awful. I remember it got really hot in the summer and never felt very good, especially if wearing shorts. When it ripped, it was backed with this rough horse hair material that went everywhere.

Isn't the gas cap supposed to be black?

Yes to both! But no one reproduced the perforated headliner for the Deluxe and Custom Cabs.

And the gas filler tube should be black.

Here's a pic of the Deluxe or Custom Cab perforated headliner with a radio speaker in place. The perforations were on!y in the center section. The outside sections where the threaded seams are are solid cardboard.
