New Guy, Questions!

Hello all, I have been searching on here and wanted some opinions on longevity. I am looking at an 03 Ex with 6.0 that was truly BulletProofed using Bullet Proof Diesel parts by a shop in FL. this along with a new tranny and revmax stage 4 torque converter were all done between 195k and 220k miles. The truck runs awesome and the shifts are crazy firm and fast with that torque converter (This is my first Diesel so I am not used to the earlier shifting). It has also had 6 of the 8 injectors changed (using oem) and the others checked out good by a ford dealership. It has zero rust and 230k miles on it. It is 4x4 and has no damage, just scratches here and there. All the electronics work. It has NEVER been tuned.

With a truck that has been gone through like this one, I am hoping to keep this thing forever, what kind of life can be expected from something like this? Also, first post of many, I will post pics once I get it! Thanks for the responses!

Without getting into all that “bulletproofing” may or may not encompass-

if the truck is in good mechanical shape, with proper maintenance it could last for upwards of 500k more miles. Especially if weak points are addressed and things are monitored closely to catch most things before they becomes an issue.

Any recommendations on a system to monitor things? It currently has no additional gauges.

My buddy has the Edge Insight CTS2, I like it a lot. With it you can add about as many things to monitor that your heart desires. But as mentioned there are apps you can get for your phone that monitor things just as well. Adding a fuel pressure gauge in addition to the other things monitored is a good thing to do. I’d also add an EGT probe(s) even though the truck is not tuned. And as also suggested the “blue spring kit” is a good thing to add to help keep fuel pressure up.

Forscan. For around $30 you can get everything you need (ELM32 Adapter and download the app for your phone). There are versions for Apple and Android plus you can also use windows on a laptop.
I use my phone while driving to monitor temps, pressures and voltages. If you're sitting at home, you can connect with a laptop or ipad.
I think there's additional functionality from the windows app. Google ELM32 adapter. Also, go to Forscan.org for more info. Forscan for windows is free. The phone app, Forscan Lite is around $6.00.

Thanks for all the info. I have Forscan from my previous F150 and have the windows based software for it. I am looking at my options for a fuel pressure gauge, I think I am just going to go the Edge CS2 (I prefer buttons to touch screen) and use it for a tune to set shift point for towing and fuel economy.

If you haven't already bought it, here's an article from BulletProof Diesel that explains what BulletProof really means:
https://www.bulletproofdiesel.com/Articles.asp?ID=345
Have the owner contact the shop if needed and provide documentation that it is (in fact) BulletProofed and that they didn't just do a couple of the things on the list.
A fully BulletProofed engineer adds a lot of value to the vehicle and commands a higher asking price (they will last almost forever if you keep up with the routine maintenance).
Unfortunately, there are more people out there that claim their vehicle has been BulletProofed than there are BulletProofed trucks...
If some of the work has been done, take it into account in your pricing, but be aware that there are still potential issues to deal with. Some people will never have to deal with the issues, but be careful that your really getting what you think you are.

Regarding monitoring, I've been using the torque pro app with a Bluetooth OBDII adapter and an old Android tablet for about a year and have been very happy with it (about ($25 all in).

Good luck with it!
