Change torque converter?

I was considering replacing the torque converter and valve body in my E4OD. Reason being is because I think its starting to slip. I was going to purchase the BTS products. The truck has about 85k - 90k miles on it.

I recently was at the local diesel performance shop and just asked about a torque converter. His take on the situation was that with 90k miles I should just replace or rebuild the whole tranny (Obviously the better choice, but also the more expensive choice). He says that if I strengthen the converter I will just increase the chance of blowing up the rest of the transmission, and then the new converter may be ruined also.

So what are your guys take on the situation? I understand his point, but I also read of a lot of guys that have just added the upgrades. Truck has the basic mods, and I'm planning on either Stage 1s or 2s soon, and maybe a D66 in the future. I know that the stock converter isn't going to last too long. I don't beat on the truck often, but once in a while you just gotta show the Chevy next to you who's boss.

BTS is a good choice. Give it a try. If the trans goes, you can still use the parts on the rebuilt one. How much do they want for the torque converter?

unfortunately I would have to agree with having it rebuilt. I'm no expert, but I no first hand that if you put an expensive valve body and especially the convertor in a tranny that's on it's way out this could get even more expensive. If your tranny goes south on ya with those parts installed, it only takes a little debris to go through that t/c for it to be junk! The valve body could also be damaged from big particles as well. Don't ask me how I know, you'll just have to trust me! lol. good luck.

I believe they wanted about $1050 for the converter and $300? for the valvebody. The thing is, according to the local guy I talked with, he said if the tranny blows, it could damage the torque converter by debris getting inside of it.
