V10 Durability fact

Hello everyone another newbie here, I just spoke with our outside mechanic about his experience with the V10. He handles several fleet accounts and has just replaced a V10 in an electrical companys truck. It had 56,500mi driven by several people very hard with not a single oil or filter change, thats right, original oil and filter. He did'nt tear the motor down, just replaced it with a new one, I think he'd give me the motor if I wanted it but my wife would kill me if I broke that smelly engine down in our garage, it would probablly stink up the whole house but it would be fun to look at.

Not trying to be rude but what does that have to do with "durability fact?" 56,000 miles doesn't seem very durable and being in a fleet vehicle, 56,000 probably wasn't much more than a few months old.

I guess what I am asking is, what point are you trying to make? The fact that it broke down in only 56,000 miles so it wasn't very durable, or that it was durable considering several people drove it and the mechanics neglected it by never changing the oil?

You never said what broke on the engine, that made it necessary to replace it.

consider this, how much oil do you suppose was left in that motor? My bet is not much if any and this thing ran for 56,000mi with no maintenance whatsoever, and as read on the post, the motor was never torn apart, I don't know what broke on it, it just stopped running, I think thats a pretty good testimony for the motor, everybody knows that this motor needs regular oil changes for longevity, soo 56,000 hard, no oil chenged miles seems pretty good to me, I'm a little excited cause I got a free motor to play with as well.

On a side note...the place I work at has a U-Haul counter inside of it. The newer 17' moving vans are E-350's with V-10's. Being a V-10 owner myself, I always take a peek at the service logs that the trucks have with them. In all the vans I've been in, driven, and seen (worked here for about 2 years now), only one van with the V-10 has had major engine problems in its past. Keep in mind these trucks have 100K plus miles on them. A few have run a little rough, some have smoked at start up, but the vast majority of them have run like tops. Heck, I even think the E-350 U-Haul's exaust note is meaner than my '02!! Just food for thought.

The exhaust system is quite a bit less restrictive looking from underneath. I have 2 pipes from the exhaust manifolds that join together in a very smooth flowing V, not a T, and then flow into the cat. Maybe that is the difference ? Personally my van has what I consider a much too quiet exhaust note, although the actual tone is quite good, compared to some pick-ups I've heard.

The V10 is the first engine I have ever owned that I like; As far as an engine that made any difference to me.

Having always bought Ford Trucks, I have never had any trouble or engine concern.

It is also the first engine I have ever owned that feels like I 'overstepped' the power purchase.

Wow, it took me a long time to get here! And no guilt, either!

I thoroughly enjoy the 'note' over my last 5.4L.

I was talking to one of the oil field companies here. They work the snot out of their truck. They first had V10's and said they were not impressed with the service life so they bought PSD's. They went back to V10's for 80% of their use because the PSD cost was killing them. They keep PSD's for the very heavy work, I am talking over GVW stuff on longer trips because the PSD has proven a better choice there. On everything else they only use the V10.
He showed me the logs and cost per mile and total cost of ownership and the V10 was a good bit cheaper to own. This included purchase, use and sale. They keep pretty tight books and to date the V10 has proven the most cost effective for 80% of the work they do. LOL he said he was banned form ever buying a Dodge again and Chevy was not much better.
The V10 cost did go up quit a bit when the were used for dragging heavy loads (GVW PLUS) on long runs, in these situations it did not hold up that well.
I don't know to many that overload their trucks every day 24/7 so it is pretty clear to me which is a better choice.
