There isn't that much difference in efficiency. The biggest difference -- can you guess? -- is cost. From a consumer viewpoint, the brushes last a lot longer, not being scraped across the commutator gaps.

I saw in a discussion among automotive design engineers that from crankshaft to power at the output of the alternator, energy conversion was ~30% efficient. This is one reason the big 200+ amp alternators on modern cars are sometimes water-cooled, they throw off a lot of heat.

well, I ain't gonna argue about it but if ya understand AC and DC current Theory you can answer it for yourself... IF DC was more efficient then that is what would be in our homes... ... while Generators have advantages over Alternators ... it's really a Moot point to argue

and IF we keep this to the Automobile then Days Past when Genny's were used current Demands on the electrical system were Minimal compared to today's automotive electrical systems.

EDIT: while it has nothing to do with Generators... automotive engineers with a small E don't show me much when they put a starter in the middle of a Valley Pan, Knowing good and well it will need to be changed... but of course the Brilliant Mind don't have to work on it do he ?

Speaking of AC v DC the movie about Edison versus Tesla called "Current Wars" is coming to a theater near you.

Already watched it....... but I do know the history of them and it's a real shame Tesla didn't get the credit that he was due..... once again Politics over Common Sense

Thing is Tesla is the Father of AC motors.... I have forgotten most of what I learned in my old Graduate classes of the late 60's when I got a few of my degrees

and I've probably forgotten more electronics than I knew when working with TRW and the Nevada Test site as an Instrumentation consultant....

mostly I did Military Weapons systems testing.... back then... I used to teach Theory ... I eventually opened up a Repair shop and now I'm Retired and trying to forget everything

and before any of you say "You Could not have watched it" understand Playon Server and specialized scripts that scrape things from the web ..........

BUT anyway... good Flic and I suggest to watch it... but I will not be a Spoiler for it.

OK... my Comment to Mixer Man was out of line... I have removed that Garbage.. and Mixer Man I apologize to you for posting that.

a genny is a simple Faraday device ......basic electronics 1st year student should know this

Pretty sure I have already read the engineering discussions.... http://www.delcoremy.com/documents/h...ite-paper.aspx

Please post the generator rebuttal ....

I do in fact have the white papers on the genny.... I just want to see that others have it too....

Thing is if IT Motors then it will generate..... why do you folks want to beat a dead horse ?????

I am totally sorry I even posted to help someone and in the future ... I will not help anyone... I'm pretty much done with this Crap .........
