92 Hard start

1992 F-250 with a 351
Starts like a Dodge?
Grinds over lots before starting , its worse when cold.
Almost wont start sometimes.
Where to start?

how old is battery, my alternator just gave up, above 2000 rpm charging fine(14.21 volts) at idle less than 12.38 volts, then this cool spell here battery started dragging, (4yr old), so before it gets cooler, I went ahead and got battery also

Its not the battery , it would never start if it were a bad battery , it turns over for 5 mins before it starts.

Best guess would be a marginal TFI and/or PIP. Are both still the factory original parts?

PIP is in distributor
TFI=ICM(sometimes called)

I looked for ICM , even found a picture but cannot find it on the truck>

TFI: “thick film ignition, or thick film integrated ignition.”

Depending on the model year it is located on the side of the distributor or on the fender by the driver’s side hood hinge

PIP: “The PIP signal is just Ford's name for the crankshaft position sensor signal. Now, in case you're wondering, the PIP sensor is located inside the distributor.”
