Close call

Coming home on the AA highway in Kentucky Sunday. My annual camping trip with buddies. I look ahead to the top of a rise on the 4 lane highway and see a car traveling in my direction pass a car on the left with headlights on coming at me. I say to my passenger " is that f-ing car in my lane". I see several cars moving oddly and I maneuver to the right but the car keeps drifting toward me until it was in the breakdown lane tapping the guard rail. Still moving I moved to the right as far as possible being blocked by a guard rail. She did miss the truck but took out my well cared for trailer. Toddler and a ten year old in her car. Every airbag smoking. First thing she says to me is I must have blacked out. Police found booze bottle with a little left in it in her purse. Feeling fortunate for the kids sake physically because my trailer stopped their freefall and not another vehicle.

Quad was ok. A little plastic damage. I had a strap on every loose piece and everything stayed put.

Glad everyone survived, including the truck. Those propane tanks could have made things messy.

Thanks. Yes the tanks were mostly empty but I am rethinking their placement. Nestled in the truck bed next time. Had gas cans there too. Not empty. Straps were stressed so I will ask for all new. Being my first accident in 40 years minus a couple deer strikes not looking forward to the possible runaround coming my way. She is being charged( pending toxicology) with wanton endangerment 6 counts for another close call, her passengers ,and me and my passenger and of course dui. Tonneau cover wont latch and tailgate looks just slightly tweaked and of course the hich and maybe bumper. Bumper looks slightly rolled down on the left hand side. It was due for replacement. Funny how things seemed to be in slow motion even though it happened pretty fast. Lucky.

There's a lot of tweaking that can happen with a tow hitch yank, including twisting the frame, so it sounds like there is more going on. At the age of the truck, the insurance may have a different perspective.

If they don't pull a nasty on you I would be sure to have the hitch replaced with a new one.
A body shop once told me any time a hitch is hit you should replace it and all the hardware.

Approximately 4 miles south of Alexandria. Near where the 275 loop intersects. Campball County
