Rear window motor does not work when cold

1983 custom 4.9L/4sp w/od
I replaced my rear window motor a few years ago but this last winter the window did not want to go up without a helping hand. It works fine in the summer or when the temp goes up just not when its cold. Any thoughts?

Have you tried cleaning off the old lube and putting some fresh lube on all of the moving parts? I replaced all the guts on my 78 a while back and noticed that during the summer when it's blistering hot out that it rolls up and down noticeably faster and I think it's due to the heat softening the grease and all the weather stripping. You could try some dry lube (graphite lube) on the weather stripping in the actual channels that the glass slides up and down in as well.

I had issues with this for a while, and it turned out to be a combination of a few things.

First was, as Doosenberry stated, the tracks were dry. Some silicone spray on all the felt runners helps the glass to slide through them, as well as on the regulator in the back. Don't use something like wheel bearing grease since it's not in a sealed area, and will collect dust and turn into caked mud in just a few months.

Secondly, the motor was weak and had old, corroded wiring. It had enough juice to move the window in the summer when things were hot, but came up short in the winter. Freshen up all the wiring to be sure the motor is getting all the juice it can.

Most any autoparts store should have one, or online such as RockAuto or Amazon.

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...dow+motor,1516

The one listed there is specific to the back with the wires, etc.
However, it should be the same as the passenger side window motor if you get a better price and are okay with just cutting and splicing wires. (If you do, just make sure your connections are good, so you're not back in the same boat with poor crimps causing low amps)

1980/91 Bronco tailgate power window motor & gear kit

E9TZ-9823394-A .. Bronco Tailgate Power Window Motor / Obsolete ~ 5 available NOS, also available from auto parts stores, but it's probably made in China.

1980/91 Bronco.

NOS PARTS LTD in Waxahachie TX has 5 = 972-937-2201.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Before you replace the motor, be aware that it contains a plastic gear that is also available separately.

This gear is notorious for stripping, plus the grease can either overheat, run out or harden up.

There are 3 round posts that keep the gear centered in the housing, overtime they flatten out.

D0AZ-62234A24-B .. Power Window Motor Plastic Gear Kit / Ford kit included the grease and 3 posts / Obsolete ~ 40+ available NOS, also available from auto parts stores.

Use with ALL 1970/90 FoMoCo vehicles power window motors.

NOS PARTS LTD has 3.

LINCOLN-MERCURY OLD PARTS STORE in Clearwater FL has 25 = 727-445-7551.

Could I use "zipper lube" on the felt tracks?
