Probably pretty common problem is screw hole tabs breaking off on OBS dash bezels. One of them I had strengthened with JB weld before it broke apart. The other one I though was ok but has since shattered.
My solution was thin sheet metal (24 gauge is easy to work with but sturdy).
Marked for same depth as other side. One side of the tab will have to be cut to allow for trim tab. Should be solid AF! I’m waiting to drill the hole until I fit into the vehicle (currently doing cluster work)
Them metal things look to be the perfect size. What were they from?
Crappy brackets from a horn replacement “kit”. It was just flat pieces with the 2 holes drilled out. Obviously don’t need 2 holes there, but it was easier than snipping and shaping 24 gauge sheet.
Always use what takes the least steps. This width was perfect though. If the opening was any smaller top to bottom, I would have had to shave a little off the width.
I think he made them. He was talking about 24ga sheet metal being easy to work with..
I didn’t cut them from sheet. Had them already lying around. But, they were thin enough to work with without needing a brake, but sturdy enough to where they’d last. Zinc coating a plus. They measured out to 24g so that’s what I recommended.
That bezel is probably the weakest part on these trucks. I repaired mine similarly, but it is no where near as nice looking. I used the universal radio bracket that comes with most head units.
When I pulled my instrument cluster to replace the burned out bulbs, the fuel tank selector switch that had been rigged by some one else broke off of it's mounting tabs. Hotmelt glue fixed that right up.
